General FAQs
Which grades are offered by Destinations Career Academy of Georgia?
Destinations Career Academy of Georgia (GADCA) is an accredited online public charter school. We enrolled full-time students in grades 6–10 for the 2024–2025 academic school year.*
Who is eligible to apply?
Students must reside in the state of Georgia. To have enrolled for the 2024-2025 academic school year, students must have been entering grades 6–10.*
Is GADCA really tuition free?
Yes. Because we are a public school, we operate under the same state guidelines as traditional public schools. This means we receive the same funding as a traditional school, and no tuition is required.
Does the program provide textbooks and instructional materials?
Yes, we provide textbooks and instructional materials. These books and materials are dependent on the student’s grade level and the courses they’re enrolled in. Computer systems will be loaned to students based upon financial need. However, common household items and office supplies like printer ink and paper are not provided.**
How many students are accepted into the school?
GADCA is a public school, thus all students who wish to enroll are admitted, subject only to the enrollment requirements listed on our How to Enroll page. Enrollment applications are date/time stamped and processed in the order in which the forms are received.
What if my child is behind on credits or failing courses?
GADCA develops an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) to assist students with recovering credits and moving forward toward high school graduation. However, we will not have an extensive credit recovery program for students who are more than one year behind in high school credits.
What are the location and age restrictions?
Students must be residents of the state of Georgia and entering grades 6–8 when enrolling for the 2022–2023 academic school year. High school enrollment will be available starting in 2023 for the 2023–2024 academic school year.* We will add one additional grade level per year until we serve all students in grades 6–12. Students must also be able to demonstrate completion of their previous coursework through official transcript or homeschool portfolios.
Can students enroll and begin classes at any time?
We are no longer accepting enrollments for the 2024-2025 school year.
I’ve been expelled. Will I get into GADCA?
Each case will be reviewed based on records from your current or former school district. Georgia state law prohibits schools from enrolling students who are currently under district or school expulsion. Approval for GADCA enrollment of previously expelled students will not be granted until the case is reviewed by our enrollment team.
What subjects will my child study?
Core courses are offered in language arts, math, science, and history. There are also other courses in the appropriate grade levels such as art, health or physical education, music, world languages, and more. Students can also access credit recovery courses.
Does my child need a computer to attend?
Yes. However, based on financial need and eligibility, GADCA may loan one computer per student to support the learning process upon request. One printer per family may also be supplied. These computer systems are instructional property and must be returned at the end of each school year.
How do students interact socially?
Students spend time with classmates online and through school outings, field trips, and other activities. In addition to school-based clubs, K12 online national clubs help connect students with like interests and passions.
What career preparation and networking opportunities will be available?
Students will have the opportunity to pursue in-person or virtual internship, apprenticeships, and other work-related experiences. This experiential approach to education, through relevant and authentic applications, mimics the real-world environment of the workplace. The school will weave project based learning and professional skill development into all aspects of each student’s education.
Do you provide curriculum for students with special needs?
GADCA does provide specific special education (SPED) services. Once a family goes through the enrollment process and SPED services are identified, the application will be flagged for IEP/504 needs. Once approved, the family will be contacted by a SPED placement counselor.
What is the attendance policy?
All students enrolled for the entire school year must attend 180 instructional days per school year. The total instructional days are prorated based on the student’s start date.
